A Cold Spell of Weather.

After the warmth of Qatar the Dutch team will certainly feel the cold when they get home after losing their quarter-final match. But they tried very hard and came very close to a win, only losing in the penalty shoot out. We watched the match. It was a tough one and at times quite violent with feelings running high. The general feeling was that the referee did not control the match well. Our friend Betty thinks that all footballers are spoilt madmen! There was certainly some behaviour on the pitch last night which was reminiscent of spoilt school kids. 

This afternoon I will watch the match between Portugal and Morocco. Then tonight we will have another early dinner before the big match of England against France. I hope to see some mature, professional behaviour!

 For some days we have been experiencing a period of very cold weather. Temperatures have fallen to -4C overnight and have stayed below zero on some days. 

Consequently our gas central heating has been used a bit more than usual. 

We are always very careful how we use energy so our gas account is in credit. We have also received some payments from our governments both here and in the Netherlands. Our house is well insulated and has an efficient heating system. We are able to monitor our energy usage and spend using our smart meter.  It really shows how a cold spell increases costs. We are lucky and can afford to stay comfortable. Roll on summer! 🌞🌞🌞

So we are managing to stay warm and Elizabeth is still hanging laundry outside to dry. Despite the cold there has been some sunshine. 

The forecast is for the cold weather to continue right up to what might be a white Christmas.

We continue to enjoy our walks through the crisp cold air and have been seeing lots of robins, which we always associate with winter and Christmas.
