The Circles that you find in the windmills of your mind…

 ….At Zaanse Schans.

Since I am unable to cycle at present, on Tuesday afternoon we walked from our apartment in Wormer to the village of Zaanse Schans.  It’s about 2.5 miles (4 kilometres).

This is a very popular spot with tourists and many nationalities were represented amongst the people we saw there. Some of the large groups of tourists were being led around the complex by guides holding various coloured flags in the air. It seems the average American tourist can easily get lost outside of the USA.
my darling lady has a notoriously bad sense of direction (she even got lost going to the local shops). I wonder if I should get a flag so she can follow me???

As well as the windmills there are cheesmakers, clog makers, butter makers, weavers, a Blue Delft China shop and various other craft workshops and museums which can be visited. All at tourist prices!
These include a replica of the first shop of Albert Heijn who in 1963 was Elizabeth’s first employer. Both she and he have seen many changes since that time. How the world has changed since the days of Beatlemania and the Cuban missile crisis! Maybe not so much….

Here I am outside the clog makers:

They sell tulip vodka in the pub here which is called the “Tweekoppige Phoenix” (two headed phoenix). We decided that was a Dutch step too far for us and so I had a beer and Elizabeth a tonic water.

On the walk back home we came across a bike that might be suited to my limited abilities:

At least I wouldn’t have far to fall!

We arrived home tired but happy after a lovely day for a quite dinner together and a relaxing evening.

More later…
