Friday.
This morning we had a visit from Bea who is another old friend of Elizabeth from the days when as young ladies they work at Cacao de Zaan. I like to think they all wore clothes like the girl above - but I’m sure that would have been a couple of hundred years earlier. They are not that old!
In the sixties maybe they looked a bit like this:
We had more cake and Bea brought a box of delicious chocolates.
Over cake and coffee the ladies got to catch up and I got to know Bea, who I had heard a lot about from Elizabeth. It seems Elizabeth is very good at choosing friends as Bea is another lovely lady. I really like how all these ladies have such a good sense of humour and enjoy a laugh and a chat.
In the evening we were taken out for dinner by Lucia and John. We went to a Greek restaurant in Wormerveer called Patmos where their son Nino works.
The restaurant is situated next to the river Zaan and there are nice views of the river, interesting buildings and boats.
We were greeted and seated by Nino who looked after us very well. He had even translated a menu into English for me.
I had some calamari to start and Elizabeth had cheese parcels. That was followed by lamb cutlets for me and a vegetarian platter for Elizabeth.
So we all had a delicious meal accompanied with ouzo, beer and lively conversation. A very pleasant experience.
Many thanks to Lucia and John for inviting us and to Nino for his excellent service. I hope we can visit the restaurant again next time we are here. There are lots more things on the menu for me to try.
We arrived home feeling full but happy. There was still time for Elizabeth to do some ironing before bedtime.
It’s coming near to the end of our visit and we are starting to think about packing and our journey home.
But there is still time for me to meet some more lovely people before we return to England.
Until tomorrow best wishes to all my readers….
