How many kinds of sweet flowers grow
In an English country garden?
We'll tell you now of some that we know
Those we miss you'll surely pardon
Daffodils, heart's ease and flox
Meadowsweet and lady smocks
Gentain, lupine and tall hollihocks
Roses, foxgloves, snowdrops, blue forget-me-nots
In an English country garden
These are the lyrics of a hit song by Jimmie Rodgers. Taken from an original tune collected and arranged by Percy Grainger. You can listen to both on Spotify or Amazon music.
Our head gardener often sings this song. She finds the chorus of flower names a bit difficult to remember so there are a few “dum dee dums”.
Here are some pics of the flowers:
Daffodils:
Flox:
Gentian
Lupin
Hollyhocks
Roses:
Foxgloves:
Snowdrops:
Forget me nots
We don’t have all of these flowers in our English Country Garden but we have some of them. And we like them all. They bring colour and fragrance into our lives. (A bit like the head gardener brings to mine).
More soon...
