Our First Day in The Netherlands

Yesterday our stalwart friend Brian collected us and took us to Heathrow airport. We had anticipated long waits at security and so arrived 3 hours before our flight.

In fact the queues for security were not so bad and we got through relatively quickly. So we had a bit of a wait before our gate was announced and we could board.

The flight itself went very well and with a following wind arrived 15 minutes early.

We got a busy train to Wormerveer where we were met by Elizabeth’s sister Yolande and her partner Leo. I had not met them before so it was very nice to see them. I struggled to communicate with my poor Dutch but we managed to get by with a mixture of English and Dutch. (Probably more English than Dutch).

Next we went to several food shops to stock up the apartment. So my first day tour was of Lidl, Aldi, Albert Heijn and Vomar. It was interesting to compare and contrast all the products against our usual shop in Sainsburys.

We settled in to the apartment in Wormer and had a light dinner.

This morning (Tuesday) we have had a late breakfast and are taking things slow and easy.

The weather is being unkind to us with a lot of rain and cold temperatures so we have not made many plans yet. But we do need to pick up a few more bits and pieces from Vomar.

Here is the view from the lounge in our apartment- a rainy day in Wormer…

We braved heavy rain to do even more shopping and during a break in the rain I took a couple of pics around the local area…

Now we are home and have a relaxing lunch whilst a thunderstorm rages outside. More adventures tomorrow….
