A Pain in the Neck!

Great news!

I have been appointed chief physiotherapist to her Majesty Elizabeth! (That’s my Elizabeth - not the dead Queen who doesn’t need one any more). There is a zero salary with this position but the job satisfaction level is high.

For some years now my dear Elizabeth has suffered chronic pain in her back and neck following a cycling accident.

At her visit to the doctor yesterday he suggested daily massages to the shoulders and neck area might give some relief.

So we have started a daily regime of massage. Yesterday was our first session. Ten minutes of manipulation complete with soothing music. There has been no miracle cure yet but we hope over time Elizabeth will feel the benefits.

Yesterday afternoon during a dry spell we took a walk around Wormer.

I took a picture of the restored Beschuitstoren.

The tower stands on the site of a factory (now gone) that made beschuiten.  These are a kind of biscuit very like a rusk. In England we are used to giving rusks to children who are being weaned and to old people with no teeth!

So of course (despite having almost all my own teeth) I decided to give some a try. Here are the ones I bought.

I will try them with some cheese for lunch one day soon and let you know how they taste.

Today the lady of the house is going clothes shopping. It’s not one of my favourite pastimes so I am going to stay at home and practice my Dutch until she returns with bags full of new clothes.

The weather has improved a lot. Now it’s dry (but cold). So when my lady returns, after the fashion show of all the new clothes, we may take another walk in the area.

More news soon.
